Our new menu went live yesterday, 18 September, at the drive-thru on Redgate Lane. It is the biggest change to what we serve since we opened: a new run of LL Specials, a proper dessert line-up of hot cookies and French toast sandos, slushies, and a longer list of LL drink specials.
Here is what is new, what it costs, and what we would order first.
The new LL Specials
This is where most of the new cooking is. Seven dishes, and five of them are new to the lane.
Nihari Tacos, £9.50. Slow cooked Lahori nihari mutton, pulled and loaded into soft corn tacos with pickled onions, fresh coriander, green chilli and a wedge of lemon. Nihari is a dish Lahore takes very seriously, cooked low for hours until the meat falls apart, and a taco turns out to be exactly the right way to eat it in a car.
Biryani Burrito, £8. Flame grilled chopped chicken on our biryani rice, wrapped in a soft tortilla with pickled onions and green chutney, and served with pomegranate and cucumber raita.
Desi Shawarma, £7. Lahori spiced chicken, flame grilled and wrapped with lettuce, pickled onions, tomatoes and our chilli and garlic sauce.
Butter Chicken Pasta, £8. Chopped chicken in our butter masala sauce with onions and green peppers, finished with a mozzarella blend.
Chicken Corn Soup, £4. The comfort bowl of Pakistani street food: shredded chicken, sweetcorn, egg and soy, with spring onion and chilli flakes. It is the cheapest thing in the section and very likely the one you will order again once the weather turns.
The butter chicken and the chicken biryani stay, both at £8. The butter chicken now comes with two naan or plain rice.
Make it yours
The new menu makes the meal options simple. Burgers, sandos and the specials marked Make It Yours all upgrade to a meal with fries and a standard drink for £3. From there you can level up the fries to masala, cheesy or cheesy masala for £2.50, or swap the drink for any LL Special Drink for £2.50.
Fusion food has its own upgrade: £3 for fries, egg fried rice or noodles. On the website menu, tap any dish and it lists exactly which options it takes and what they cost.
New on the savoury side
Chicken Manchurian, £7, joins the fusion food: crispy chicken bites tossed in our homemade Manchurian sauce, next to the dynamite, chilli, firecracker and Korean BBQ chicken.
The toasties are now Sandos, on brioche: the Chicken Tikka Melt at £7 and the Philly Cheese Melt at £8. The burgers are the Lahori Smash and the Anda Wala Burger at £6.50 and the OG Bun Kebab at £5.50, all with a double patty for £2 more.
New desserts
Hot Cookies, £6.50. Freshly baked with a crisp edge and a soft, gooey centre, served hot on top of Mr Whippy. Triple chocolate, white caramel, or cookie fries with your choice of dipping sauce.
French Toast Sandos, from £8. Thick brioche French toast, golden and buttery outside and soft inside, sandwiched with a filling and served warm. Strawberry and Nutella, Lotus, and apple and cinnamon at £8, kunafa at £8.50.
Puddle Cake, £7. Warm chunks of our chocolate cake smothered in hot chocolate ganache. It sits next to the Original Matilda Cake, now £8.50, under Signature Cakes.
Also on the new sheet: old school desserts at £7 each (sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble, chocolate cake, cornflake tart and school cake, with custard), the desi delights from falooda to gajar ka halwa, brownie slabs, milk cakes, dessert cups, flurries and milkshakes.
New drinks
The LL Drink Specials grow to eight. Alongside nimbu paani in three versions at £4, there are four new ones at £5: Lychee Passion Splash, Mango and Passionfruit Cooler, Green Apple and Strawberry Fizz, and a Classic Mojito. Ocean Breeze, lemon and lime with mango and blue curacao, is £5 too.
Slushies are new at £3, in blue raspberry and strawberry. And karak chai and pink tea are now any two for £5.
What we would order first
If it is your first time back since the change, go for the nihari tacos with a level-up to a mango and passionfruit cooler, then a hot cookie to finish. That is the new menu in three orders.
Where to find us
Lahori Lane is on Redgate Lane, Manchester M12 4RX. Open Monday to Friday from 6:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 4:00pm, until 2:00am every night. It is a drive-in: park where the attendant points you, put your hazard lights on and a server comes to the car. Everything is halal. Longsight, Gorton, Ardwick, Levenshulme, Openshaw and the city centre are all a short drive from Redgate Lane.
